The UK Government Review On Gaming Machines Advised by Gambling CommissionUK Gambling Commission advised the Government report


The UK Gambling Commission was established under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate the commercial gambling including National Lottery.  

The UK Gambling Commission announced that is going to advise the Government’s recommendation refer to the slot and non-slot game machines. The government takes over socially responsible moves in order to protect the game consumers.

The recommendation includes:
 
  • FOBT slot games (B2) stakes cut to £2.
  • FOBT non-slot games (BT2) stake limits, including roulette, would be set at max £30.

In order to avoid the possibility of gamers for losing large amounts money for a short time.

 
  • Gaming machines could not allow playing dissimilar categories of games in the same session.
  • Should be made tracking on (B1, B2, B3) categories of machines and for B1 and B3 games should be displayed player limits as in B2 games

 
Cutting of slots and non-slots stakes


So recommendation related to slot game machines means cut of slots stakes to Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBT)  on £2.The commission also reported that stakes for non-slot games on (FOBT) including roulette, will be cut from £100 to £30 or less.

The Gambling Commission mentioned, In that case, the consumers will be put on smaller risk for losing large amounts of money.  

For example, at the moment players could be betting up to £100 every 20 seconds at the terminals and can spend huge amount per hour £18000 on games like roulette and blackjack.

Operators do not approve the Gambling Commission recommendation


The operators are not satisfied with this recommendation saying that it’s going to destroy their business. Some of them said it will cause the closing of shops and workplaces.  Company Ladbrokes Coral stated this cutting will rise negative impact and will lower the revenue for £437m each year.

After the announcement of Gambling Commission, the prices of shares of William Hill shops increased more than 4 percent up to 334.5p and for Ladbrokes Coral shares increased 3.28 percent up to 176.05p.

According to the recommendation, the machines should not allow gamers to play in a single session different games.

 Steps that should be taking over by operators to make the limit setting more successful is to provide an ending of sessions when players extend the money and time limits.

The set of measures also include checking of new customers. Operators should have to verify gamers if there are affordable and origin of their funds.

The UK Gambling Commission has given its official proposal related gaming machines and social responsibility moves on the UK Government’s review. The letter of recommendations has been delivered to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport and it’s up to Government whether the implementation will be done.
