Jon:

The core game idea of a fishing game where lobsters claim uncaught fish was pitched in a pub during a casual social catch-up between colleagues. As soon as the words “Lobster Hotpot” were spoken, we knew we were onto something.

2. If Lobster Hotpot could be described as a dish, what would be its main ingredients for success?

Jon:

The hotpot title gives a great picture to the player of how the mechanics work. Much like a hotpot, the core bonus mechanics take time to come to a boil and yield results, which means the ends of bonuses are often filled with anticipation.

Alexandros:

Cooking up a winning combo is all about throwing in 30% theme and art, adding another 30% for nailing the mechanics and math, putting in a solid 30% of hard graft in development, and sprinkling in a cool 10% for some innovative flair.

3. Which character in Lobster Hotpot holds a special place in your heart, and why?

Alexandros:

Definitely the Lobsters. They generate a special feeling as you familiarize yourself with their mechanics. Even if you don’t manage to land the Fisherman and catch the fish, you know there’s always another chance, and their value is not wasted. And by the end of the bonus, the Lobsters are all you’re looking at.

4. Are there any memorable moments from the development of Lobster Hotpot that you'd be willing to share?

Jon:

After making the core game in pre-production, there was a moment when we realized how many innovative twists we could add to the core bonus mechanic. So rest assured that any sequels will be just as exciting and fresh as this initial game release is.

Alexandros:

It was during a review meeting with the product team. After discussing feedback on the possible improvements to the game, everyone shared just how well the game played, and how fresh it felt. I think that’s the moment we realized that this game was special.

5. What emotions do you hope to evoke in players with Lobster Hotpot?

Jon:

Suspense in the bonus. We have a hotpot which is growing towards the end of the free spins and the player will be looking for the super cage to land. It makes for some great dramatic tension.

6. Imagining the future, what exciting developments can fans anticipate in Lobster Hotpot?

Jon:

We’ll be adding volatility to the gameplay which will keep players on the edge of their seats. This might come from simple twists or more sophisticated mechanics – players will have to wait and see, but there are some great things to come.

Alexandros:

It’s the volatility for me! Multiple ideas were kicking around during production to enhance and expand upon pretty much every feature, but we had to hold ourselves back to make sure we released a well-balanced game. So there are still a lot of ideas left to draw upon for a potential sequel.

7. What elements of Lobster Hotpot do you think will resonate most with players?

Alexandros:

I would say the plethora of features which are available during the bonus. Maybe you’ll land a huge hotpot towards the end of the bonus or perhaps you’ll be surprised with a massive catch by landing Fishermen. Whatever it is, there’s never a dull moment.

8. Are there any aspects of Lobster Hotpot you believe set a new trend in gaming?

Alexandros:

We think this game charts a new course by being unafraid to challenge the familiar. Of course, you want the player to feel at home when playing a slot with such a prolific theme, but you always aim to keep them on their toes and deliver surprises with new mechanics.
