Playtech has grown to become the largest online software supplier in the gaming industry, having enjoyed rapid expansion since it was originally founded in Tartu, Estonia.
It began in 1999 with the first Playtech casino launched on 31 December 2001. Three years later it founded the iPoker network, now the largest in the world. The success of the company was so great that it began trading on the London Stock exchange in 2006.
In 2006, Playtech extended its bingo portfolio and, through acquisitions, took over more land-based terminals. Two years later, they signed an online gaming license agreement with the gambling giant William Hill and, in 2009, the business acquired Gaming Technology Solutions.
During these years, Playtech was expanding across the globe, gaining licenses to operate in an increasing number of countries. Slowly and steadily, it was becoming one of the top operators in the market. The tendency persisted up to 2017, when a number of high-profile acquisitions took place, making the company the industry’s most powerful software developer.
